How can I implement technology in my room?
One computer:
*Establish a daily schedule/rotation.
Use a timer and elect one student to be the schedule keeper.
*Teaching procedures and expectations about computer use is ESSENTIAL! Students must understand volume/headphones, how to get on/off w/out disturbing those around them, following time rules or losing computer privelege's. Teach social media etiquette, such as no names or personal information should be posted.
*Elect or establish a "Student Expert" to be the go to person or helper.
Small Groups/Computer Stations:
*Partners: benefit is to pair up a less skilled technician with a more advanced student to assist each other.
*Small group works together with assigned roles and a task sheet that must be checked off as they complete each task.
*Group creates a powerpoint presentation or prezi: 1 slide per student.
*Group records a podcast or imovie, etc...acting out each of the words or reading example sentences.
Whole Class Instruction/Computer Lab:
*Whole class engaged in same activity at the same time. Should always be purposeful and specific.
*Tip: Train a few "Student Experts" or enlist an older mentor student to help everyone navigate their tasks.
Internet Safety: *You must instruct and guide students on internet safety before any tech is utilized. Below is a link to an article detailing safety for students.
